The journey towards selecting and implementing the IT system began years prior, involving the engagement of a specialized consulting company. This collaboration led to the development of an extensive set of requirements, totaling 2,000 items, covering various organizational processes in finance, purchasing, production, and quality control. Responding to Novameta's detailed and extensive inquiry posed a significant challenge for potential bidders. The complexity increased with the requirement to provide approximate pricing early in the process, considering the extensive scope of implementation and custom solutions.

Solution

Mindbox emerged victorious in securing the bid for implementing the Kinetic ERP production management support system at Novameta. The selection process involved detailed presentations, showcasing the ERP system's functions and addressing inquiries from potential users. Mindbox's solution emphasized the system's openness for seamless integrations and showcased expertise in individual functional areas. During the negotiation phase, Novameta and Mindbox jointly decided to scale down the project, opting for standard functions in several areas instead of extensive customization. Novameta chose to explore the industry's 'best practice' proposed by Epicor, leading to a reduction in planned customizations. The implementation strategy involves prioritizing the most critical items initially and deferring decisions on less crucial customizations.

Results

Despite the scaled-down project and reduced customizations, the implementation of Kinetic ERP at Novameta remains a complex endeavor, encompassing the development of several hundred custom functions. Novameta's strategic decision to prioritize standard functions aims to evaluate the impact of changes on legacy processes concerning efficiency, service quality, and the bottom line. Challenge

Our customer has been in the tire manufacturing business for over three decades and has well-established processes for planning, organizing and controlling material resources. More than ten years ago, he implementedSAP SCM APOum to link all business and operational processes within a digital ecosystem and benefit from accurate supply chain planning, warehouse management and detailed scheduling. Over time, however, our customer had encountered several issues that were hindering its expansion plans. For example, the traditional SAP ECC was hampered by an outdated database and a complex data model with redundant or fragmented information that impeded efficient decision making. In addition, SAP-integrated software proved too cumbersome for employees due to its outdated graphical user interface. At the same time, SAP was pressuring customers worldwide to replace SAP ECC, whose maintenance was scheduled to end by the end of 2027, with SAP S4/HANA, which was a major overhaul of the business suite. Thus, modernization became a necessity that could not be postponed any longer.

Solution

The original goal was to modernize the SAP ECC modules and bring them together under the umbrella of the business suite without compatibility problems or data loss. On this basis, Innowise Group was commissioned to migrate ECC ERP to S/4HANA. In addition, our project team replaced the outdated GUI with the user-friendly and web-compatible interface of SAP Fiori, which is used to configure, manage and operate the core functions of the business suite.

Results

Innowise Group has significantly enhanced the customer's SAP ecosystem. From now on, supply chain planning, warehouse management, and detailed scheduling will have more accuracy, flexibility, and speed to meet the ever-changing business environment. By migrating to SAP S4/HANA, we have eliminated redundancies and duplicate data and improved predictability and precision in strategic decision-making. The interface is now more user-friendly and accessible via a web browser, reducing errors. Our customer benefits from a simple, scalable, and extensible SAP architecture that can handle a growing number of users without downtime.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

The team completed the work within the stipulated timeframe. We give it a try and were quite satisfied with the demo. The few minor issues that we faced, were addressed quickly and in a highly professional manner.

The Project Manager was always upfront with the solutions and effectively communicated with the rest of the team members. The means of communication were Microsoft Teams and Email.

Challenge

What was the challenge of data exchange for CargoLine?

CargoLine, one of Germany's largest general cargo cooperations, attaches great importance to the optimal utilization of its partners' trucks. The network of independent freight forwarders has modernized its work platform in order to be able to manage consignments and general cargo transport perfectly. On the one hand, the aim was to further simplify data exchange between the affiliated companies. On the other hand, the network wanted to modernize the architecture of its system, use flexible services and thus prepare further developments of its own service offering.

Solution

Solution: Platform architecture for digital services 

We designed the entire architecture for the new Octobus platform and developed the majority of the services. One of our goals and tasks for the project was to open up the working system to applications from other providers and to be able to connect their software quickly. This is why the so-called BUS technology and Representational State Transfer Application Programming Interfaces (REST APIs) are central elements of Octobus. Both allow web-based services to be used for processing data. A key service based on this is central clearing, i.e. an application for managing internal billing between service providers. This was programmed by the Austrian software company Iovavum.
